Interview: Felix Kröcher

Hailing from Frankfurt, Felix Kröcher is one of the key figures of the German scene. This techno titan is best known by his music and his sets. The Clubber got a chance to have Felix for a chat about his projects which you can read below.

Let’s start with your EP “Ammunition”. It has just come out and it’s great. What can you tell us about it? What was your inspiration?

Glad you like it! I always get my inspiration from gigs and travelling, seeing new cities and new people is always inspiring. When I get home after a long weekend I really like to sit down in my studio and put all this inspiration into my tracks. I have this procedure for every single track, so yeah this is also how “Ammunition” came alive.

Let’s get a bit back in time, how and when did you know that techno music is what you wanted to do in life?

Well, I have always enjoyed electronic music in general. As you may know I grew up in Frankfurt, which of course had a huge impact on my musical influence, since there has always been a big techno scene there with some amazing clubs and DJs. When I started working at Sunshine Live and getting my first gigs over in Frankfurt, I knew: This is what you want to do with your life. It still fulfils me every gig to see people having a good time, when they are dancing to my music.

Do you remember your first performance? Tell us a bit about that, how was it?

I do not even really remember my first one, which is a bit embarrassing! But I remember one of my first really big gigs: This was when I played at the Nature One Festival in 2005. Of course I was a little bit nervous, since all the people were there who are important to me: My parents, friends, colleagues from Sunshine Live, but this is still one to remember.

You’ve played at some of the best events in the world, such as Time Warp, Awakenings and Amsterdam Dance Event. Which one is your favorite and why?

Well, I don’t have a favorite event or venue at all. I think it always depends on the people, the location and the vibes going on, but of course the really big ones like Time Warp, Awakenings & Nature One are really good ones to play.

Last August you did two remixes of Alle Farben’s Get High. Can you tell us something about your cooperation?

When I got asked to remix Alle Farben’s “ Get High” I was kind of honored. Sometimes I am really into non-techno stuff, I can give a more technoid flavor, so I was quite happy to be able to remix it!

We got a chance to hear your great releases last year, you also released You Gotta for the Toolroom ADE 2015 release. Tell us something more about this release? What was the story or inspiration behind it?

As I said before, I always take my inspiration from traveling and playing in front of different people, but it really was a pleasure to release on such a well-known label!

You did a remix of Faun for Mr. Bizz in 2015, so what was your the starting idea about making this remix?

When I started the Mr. Bizz remix I knew that I wanted to give it a really club suitable style. So I made sure, I can play this one at the rush hour of the night and I think this one definitely works out well in the clubs.

What can you tell us about your future projects? Do you have any special plans?

I always try to get as much music done as I can and of course I am consistently working with my team on developing new ideas and plans. I am just about to release two new remixes for Christian Bonori and Frankyeffe.

With all the working and touring how do you find time for yourself and your family and friends? What do you do to relax?

Of course it is not always easy to handle this. At the moment I am touring a lot, but this is, at least only at the weekend. During the week I work at Sunshine Live and I try to spend as much time as I can with my family and friends and of course find time to get new music done, which is really important & also relaxing for me.

And lastly, do you have any message to your fans and our readers?

Thanks, for making this all possible. I am living my dream right now and it was a really great year for me, with many exciting shows and gigs and I hope to see you again in 2016.
