During his years of activity since early 2000s, Max managed to take part in the creation of the legendary graffiti alliance Zachem, has worked with the studio OBO & HOBOS, was collaborated with radio stations Deepmix.ru and Rts.fm. He was a resident of all the best clubs in Moscow, conducted an extensive propaganda of his constant musical activity throughout Russia and has being noticed in most important cities. Since 2010 he began actively touring in Europe, playing at festivals like Sonne Mond Sterne, Meeresrausch, and since 2011 has been a regular guest of the legendary Kater Blau, former Katerholzig and Bar25.
We had an opportunity to talk with him about his career, future plans and what can we expect in an amazing Club Tunnel this weekend!
Hey Max! Thanks for your time! For the beginning, can you tell us how did you start to be interested for electronic music?
Hey Clubbers!
I think the beginning was during the mid 90s. I was listening to some ska-punk stuff and was digging deeper into the roots of ska. Development of ska into rocksteady and reggae, and after comes dub music – that was the start I think. Monotonic sound and repeating groove, extensive echo, reverb, panoramic delay, such kind of engineers like King Tubby and Lee Perry looked upon the mixing console as an instrument, manipulating tracks to come up with something new and different. They have influenced many genres of music including rock, punk, post punk, pop, hip hop, disco, and later house, techno, ambient, trip hop, jungle and drum and bass, and this has given me the possibility to mix all kinds of music as a result of this evolution.
You became a resident of the legendary Moscow club „Mix“, which was a part of „Deepmix.ru“, known worldwide for it’s radio stream. How did that affect on your further career?
I was working with this radio from the beginning, i remember when the stream of audience was maximum 52 people, I was involved in the creation of the radio, my innovative idea was to give a names to the sessions and make consistent development in a deep mixes. Am still following this musical course of deep thinking. Work is work, you reap what you saw (After long hard work it should be a harvest!). My unique style enabled me to forge a career that I believe has been successful to date, the radio is only retranslator.
Among all the major clubs you’ve performed, which was your fave?
It’s not even in the names of places, the case is the magic atmosphere created by people visiting these clubs, all of them were delightful moments to cherish and I am very proud that these performances were in the history of my musical development.
In 2013 you recorded a track together with Anton Zap, which is only available as a limited release on the Anton Zap Ethereal Sound label. Tell us a story behind this collaboration? Are you planning some new releases?
This spontaneous work, born as suddenly as our meeting, we flew the same flight, in fact it has created this musical exeperiment. That’s enough for an exclusive limited status.
