Eric Sneo is a veteran of techno, he is well known as a great live performer and for his unique performances on the E-drums during his DJ set. Eric is going to play in Belgrade, Serbia and in this matter we got the chance to speak with him about his music, Mudra Audio label and got to know him a little better.
Enjoy!
Hello Eric, thanks for your time! How are you? What’s new?
I am fine ! Lot of work to do in the studio as usual 😉
You are a true musician; you play lots of instruments. Can you tell us something about the period you got interested in music? Why did you choose techno?
Yes, I started to learn playing instruments like Piano, Drums etc. Also studied several styles like classic Piano and Jazz. Later on I was looking for a music with energy and rhythm and therefore Techno was the right choice for me. At the moment more and more melody comes into my productions again and that means I can include my musical background, not only programming beats but really do compositions and play around with harmonies and chords. I am thinking about to start a new project to go on with this…
People around the world know you for your live performance. You are playing acoustic and electronic instruments and especially your electronic drum kit. What is your goal and what do you want to achieve with your live sets?
After many years of pure DJing, I experimented to include live instruments during my performances and started integrating the electronic drums. Later on, more and more instruments followed, such as the electronic accordion, the theremin etc. At the moment I focus again on the DJ sets, but you never know how things develop. For my DJ sets I bring the e-drums anyway to every gig !
You are a veteran of techno so are there some things on the scene or changes through the years that you are not satisfied about?
The label business is not a real business any more, because it´s very difficult to get money out of it. We all have discussed the various reasons over and over, so it´s clear why the situation is the way it is. For many DJs, the label and their releases are just a part of their DJ promotion and that´s a strange development.
How are you satisfied with the work and mission of your Mudra Audio label? Would you name some upcoming releases that we shouldn’t miss?
Mudra Audio is my platform on which I can release what I want to. I like to release tracks there that have a kind of spiritual atmosphere or theme and I prepare 2 releases of myself with influences from world music especially from India and the Asian world with their typical instruments and percussions ! Tracks for my label Mudra should have that spiritual dimension in it. Upcoming releases are from Peppelino, Dani Sbert and Natalino Nunes…
You are the part of Christian Smith’s Tronic label family, so how did your cooperation started?
We started with my release “Move on” beginning of 2015. Now we work together very close and plan a release series on Tronic, which will be massive. I am really happy with this cooperation and like the way he sees things very clear…
You recently released ‘’Airwaves EP’’ on Tronic. Which is one more of your great releases, so what is the story behind this EP?
This track is the result of a jamsession in the studio. Had the chords and the sound and it turned out to be a very emotional track. The second one of this release “all the things she said” is one of my favourite productions. Destroys every club… haha
People who follow your work know that your tracks often appear on Beatport’s Techno Top 100 chart. Currently there is your track ’’ Cosmic Dance’’ which is a part of Stil Vor Talent Berlin’s compilation. What was the inspiration or idea behind this track?
It´s a track I produced in 2011, but it still works and lot´s of DJs still play it. Just had the right feeling in the studio to do it, although it´s not my common style…
What can we expect from you in the near future? Are you preparing some new releases or projects?
Of course. You always have to keep things going… At the moment I am working on that release series for Tronic. Also there will be a coop with Peppellino on Mudra Audio and I am about to do a remix for Axel Karakasis
You will play in our capital, Belgrade along with Fernanda Martins on September 25th, so what are you preparing for us? What can we expect from your set?
Never expect anything… but listen 😉 Of course I will bring the e-drums !!!
Do you have a message for all our readers who will hear you at Depo?
Stay tuned to techno music ! And if you like check out my weekly podcast !
