Interview with Fabio Florido was done just before his performance at MINUS showcase on the first night of Apgrade weekend where he played along with Richie Hawtin and Julian Jeweil.
How much and in which why has traveling around Europe and clubbing helped you to develop your taste?
The time i’ve spent traveling around Europe it’s one of the best&useful things i have done in my life so far! Obviously while i was doing it i never thought it would have helped me so much in the future, only now days i understand it. For years and years i used to book my holidays only correlate to a Festival or some big night around Italy and Europe..this made me listen, enjoy, experience new and different types of music, crowds and environments. When i go to a gig now, it’s kind of automatic for me to understand the type of Music that should best fit the club i’m entering. I can only thank the years of observing and living those experience on my skin.
Do you feel that moving to Ibiza is necessary for someone to make it in this business?
Absolutely it’s not necessary. I think is more about the way you are, the effort you put in what you are doing and also a bit of luck! Ibiza is a very good place to be if you want to meet the right people, listen to non-stop music or hand your own tracks to your favorite Djs….but you must do it! You might have to sacrifice many things and work very hard to achieve your goals. I saw many young producers/Djs that went there thinking to become „big“ only because they were in Ibiza but actually doing nothing. In conclusion, everything it’s up to YOU no matter where.
How does it feel to work side by side with the Titan of Minimal?
Hehe you can just imagine that! It’s first of all a huge honor and then an incredible and useful experience for my life and career. I found myself projected quite fast from the small to the biggest scenarios and being close to Rich with his crew is something that any school can’t replace or teach you. I’m so aware that I’m learning from the top quality in this industry.
What inspires you most when it comes to your music production?
For years i always believed that my best tracks where made only after a good night out listening to electronic music. Now that im more in the industry a say, listen to somebody else music! And not necessarily Techno. Sometimes i’m locked into a loop where i’m not inspired and i realize i’ve only listened to Techno music for months…when this happen i try to disconnect and listen to something else before starting a new project. Jazz for example is the best music to get some „groove“ inspiration or some pianists to get some „melodies“ ideas.
What’s essential for you for a perfect night out, from a DJ and a club-goer point of view?
Good question, there are some points which are a Must for a good night out for me:
Be with the perfect company of friends and go to a club for one big common reason, Dance and have fun!!!
Music must be Techno and Groovy with a nice balance of frequencies/Bass-lines/
Sound system must be at least decent.
Nice balance of girls and boys in the club.
Everyone Off from work the next day!
Do you think that techno is a philosophy of it’s own?
Mmmh….i don’t know if Techno can be a philosophy on its own. I mean that every type of music should be connected and not really considered each one on their own. From the past until these days we learned that every time the world faced different „philosophies“ people fight for what they believed with bad consequences like discriminations or wars. Music should be considered as an unique big community with the same common philosophy: Connect people!
What is your main goal in life?
My main goal is to be happy! I think one of the biggest reasons to be happy is to make your passion your job. If you love your job and it constantly gives you satisfaction you are on the right way for an happy life.
What are the finer things in life for you?
There are many good things in life for me. Maybe what i consider the finest one is going back home once in a while and reunite with my family and friends. That’s very important and really needed.
