ANNA is one of the most notable Brazilian names on the techno scene. She is in high global demand – creating success out of producing and performing thanks to her hard work and dedication. The Clubber got a chance to have ANNA for a chat before her performance in Belgrade, which you can read further.
You had a very successful 2015, so what are your thoughts on it?
Yes, it was a busy year for me both in my personal life and in my career. It was the year that I played the first time for Carl Cox at Space Ibiza, I toured all over the world and got a chance to visit some amazing places. My releases also worked out very well and I ended up in the top 10 selling artists on Beatport Techno artists so yes it was a big year and I am very grateful for it.
Your whole family is in the music business, so I guess it was no wonder that you became a DJ and a producer. When did you know that’s what you wanted to do? How did your friends and family react when you first told them?
My family was always supportive, actually it was my father that suggested I should started being a DJ, because I was always very attent and sometimes I used to complain when the resident DJ played the same track in the same order every weekend, until then I never thought of it but since that day everything made sense. I used to spend the whole day practicing and researching. My closest friends loved it, but some of my friends from school for example didn’t understand it very much, we were only 15, they went crazy when I missed prom because I had a gig on the same day that I could not miss.
People all over the world love your music and you keep on impressing them with your new releases. Mixmag called you “one of Brazil’s finest exports” and you were named as “Breakthrough artist” by Beatport. Did you ever think that your career would reach these heights? How do you feel about it now when it’s happening?
I remember when I was 14, and I was practicing on the turntables, wondering how amazing it would be if I could be a DJ and producer forever, if I could do this and have money to buy food and pay rent it would be a dream. One thing that amazes me is DJs that I am really big fans of since that time are inviting me for shows, like Carl Cox, John Digweed, Sasha, Richie Hawtin. I never thought I would reach these heights when I was a girl practicing at home.
Your debut for Solomun’s Diynamic label will be released tomorrow, so how did it come to your cooperation with this label and could you tell us something about the release?
I sent some tracks to Solomun as a demo, months later he answered me saying he was playing “Odd Concept” all the time and wanted to sign it on Diynamic, I gladly accepted of course. I really admire the work they do on Diynamic, all the care they have, the showcases are really well planned and I love the artists on the roster, I’m proud to have a music signed with them.
What else are you preparing or planning for this year?
I have some releases signed on Tronic, Terminal M, remixes on Suara, Yoshitohi, Knee Deep In Sound, Selador, Exploited, a lot of music coming.
You’re also currently on tour, how do you keep up with traveling all the time and making music?
I always find time to make music, I also have Ableton on my Laptop to record some ideas when I am on tour, but I still can find a lot of time to make music, I live in Europe now so it is much easier, I travel during the weekend and have the whole week to be in my studio.
What usually inspires you when you’re spinning and creating new music?
For me inspiration comes from EVERYTHING, from nature, a talk with a friend, a movie, I always have a lot of ideas during a long walk, and of course from my references, always when I am out of ideas I listen to some old mixes from Derrick May, Juan Atkins, Carl Cox, Richie Hawtin, it always opens my mind. 
If you weren’t a musician, what would you be, and why?
Nutritionist, I research a lot about healthy food, I love to eat well and I am always trying to tell my friends what they should eat, what is good for their bodies.
I assume there are still more things you want to do when it comes to your career… What are some of your goals for the future?
I really have nothing that I want to achieve, I am always working hard and doing my best for my music but I don’t have an outcome in mind, nothing that I am waiting for, I wanna keep being able to live off my music forever.
You’ll play twice in Serbia during your tour. Have you ever been here before? Do you have any expectations from the crowd?
No I’ve never been, I am really looking forward, I got a lot of messages on my facebook, people seem to be excited! I have a good friend from Serbia that I am fan of since I was a kid, Marko Nastic, I just can’t wait to play in his city!
