Montesa drops Cala Comte EP on The Dance Company

The Dance Company label is nearly indebted to the style and sounds of the 80s and 90s, from the label art to the first EP. It comes from an artist going by the name of Montesa and offers up three warm, personal sounding house cuts for small basement and intimate gatherings.

The first is Cala Comte, an effective deep house tune with pinging rubbery drums and US garage hats. It’s fresh and infectious and the vocal cries add the all important human element that makes this one stand out. Chic is more loose, with summery synths floating in the air, lazy drums setting the laid-back tone down low and some pan pipes up top for added new age magic. Best of all though, by a long way, is Educate Your Mind. The bassline has real yearning in its sombre tones as it dances around the scale and has you feeling pained and lost. The drums and hi hats around it are simple but effective and add as punctuation to the main story. Radiant pads add an ethereal feel and if this artist turns out more like this he or she is sure to go on to big things.
